Art Stadlin frequently uses PowerPoint in a church environment -- in this small conversational piece, he talks about his experiences in using PowerPoint effectively:

"I have been doing PowerPoint for our Contemporary Service at our church since 2004. We use the PowerPoint 2003 version with the PowerPoint Presenter View. We run it on a laptop running Windows XP, and we have found that it is not practical to integrate audio/video into the PowerPoint. So we don't do that at all.

"Our PowerPoints are fairly simple slides, with mainly text over images. On a typical Sunday, there are about 160 slides in the 1-hour service. If we want to play audio or video, we use the CD/DVD machine which is hooked in with our projection system, which includes two racks of equipment and a sound board.

"Something to remember is to keep it simple. I have trained a number of volunteers to "run the PowerPoint" and the simpler the better. In that way, any of us can handle the "show" any Sunday.

"When we added the new Contemporary Service in 2004, based on PowerPoint, we had less than ten people show up. Now of the three Sunday morning services, the one with PowerPoint has surpassed the other two in attendance. People like the convenience of not having to juggle the hymnal, prayer book, service bulletin, and the Bible".
